Hello and welcome to the About page for my website (travellingcliff.com). My friends call me Cliff and I am a business owner, film maker and photographer from Auckland, New Zealand.
While I’ve been a photographer for over 20 years I started taking it seriously in August of 2018. It was around that time my computer died so I decided to upgrade everything including my main camera to the Panasonic Lumix GH5.
Since August I’ve been filling the gaps in my photographic knowledge through online courses like Phil Ebiner’s Photography Masterclass. You can see the results of that applied knowledge on Instagram (new photos daily).
How I can help you.
The goal of this blog has changed slightly from being purely travel-based to a more photo-centric website. If you’re wanting to improve your photographic and video game please consider following my blog as I regularly write and vlog about my technical experiences. The good, the bad and the ugly.
On my main blog page you’ll find everything from gear unboxings, first impressions and reviews but also my business achievements and failures. Hopefully you’ll join me on this journey so you can avoid the mistakes I’ve made and benefit from my discoveries.
My Story So Far.
I’m the middle child of four kids born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. My mini-self remembers watching old reruns of Walt Disney and his theme parks (Disneyland and Disney World). This planted a seed in me to visit them one day and that grew into a passion for travel. It’d take another 20 years to visit both Disneyland and Disney World but the wait was worth it!
From Disney there were other places across the United States I’d only heard about or seen on television like Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, St Louis, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, Washington DC, Florida, New York, and others.
At this point I’d truly caught the travel bug and would go onto visit the Bahamas, all over neighboring Australia, and across South-East Asia.
It was also around this time I started developing Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) which is a fancy way of saying I want all the latest and greatest camera gear as you’ll see from my blog.
Anyway, I wish I could say I was done with travel, I was content with the camera gear I have, I’d seen everything, and done it all, but once you’ve experienced a taste of this lifestyle you become hooked and it’s the greatest feeling ever. I’m having the time of my life! And I want to help you get there too.
Before you go…
