So you’ve come to this About page wondering who and what this Travelling Cliff guy is all about and if he’s someone you should follow.

Lets see if I can convince you to stick around (no pressure!).

What’s in it for you?

Firstly, I want you to enjoy reading my blog. You should be able to sit back and learn something new while having a good laugh or two with every blog post.

Thirdly, I’ve been to several countries with more to come and can give you my unique perspective including my Best Dos and Don’ts, Travel Tips/Tricks and more. Literally no one else can say that!

Secondly, if you’ve been thinking about generating a “side hustle” or extra income from online work like blogging you’ve come to the right place. I’m documenting everything from the ground up with no established fan base. Also, I hate people who try to “hard sell” you on stuff you don’t want which is totally not me at all. I want to be completely honest and transparent with you at all times.

B,  okay I don’t have a B and my numbering system (firstly, thirdly, secondly, etc) is getting ridiculous. Have you laughed yet? Yes? No? I’ll try harder.

How can I help you?

My background is in Computer Information Technology. That’s fancy talk for IT, namely, Website Development. I graduated from AUT University in 2007/2008 and dived into the IT field for a couple of years. It was great at first however I soon realised I’m actually made up of two types of people. One-part analytical. One-part creative.

Web development is mostly analytical (coding and problem solving) and doing just that for a living prompted a renewed appreciation for art, music, photography and videography. And it wasn’t about doing just one type of thing (analytical) or the other (creative). Like most people, having a variety of interests FUELS me.

Those last two paragraphs weren’t particularly funny so I hope I haven’t lost you yet and you’re still with me. Stay with me. Stay with me now.

I grew to develop some pretty mad skillz and I wanted to share what I knew with the world.

That sounded better in my head.

Did you know I’m also a foodie?! You should see my Instagram.

My eggs benedict breakfast photo was taken with an iPhone 6 and the image was modified using an app called Snapseed. You’ll find more tips like this by following my blog.

Not. So. Subtle. Hint.

But seriously who am I? About me

I’m the middle child of four kids born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. As a young and impressionable kid I remember old reruns of Walt Disney talking about his theme parks. This grew into a passion for travel and it’d take me another 20 years to visit both Disneyland and Disney World. I can tell you this much… the wait was worth it!

Achieving one of your life goals is truly fulfilling and I want you to reach yours no matter how impossible it might seem.

Disneyland is in Anaheim, California and the distance to and from Auckland is over 6,000 miles. It’s a twelve hour flight which costs thousands of dollars (USD or NZD) in travel, accomodation and spending.

There was a time when I’d make excuses for myself. It’s too expensive. I can spend that money to pay my bills, buy a car, etc. Everyone has guns over there. It’s too dangerous.

When I finally shifted my thinking to How Can I Make This Work that’s when things starting coming together and, boy, did they go up from there.

Me (Cliff) in Las Vegas, Graceland, and Disney World

I would go on to travel all over the U.S. to places like Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, St Louis, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, Washington DC, Florida, New York and others.

My adventures didn’t stop with the U.S. as I ventured to the Bahamas, Australia and across South-East Asia. And I’m only getting started.

The best part about travelling is the food and how one culture, country, state, city or town will have their own take on the exact same meal. This alone should be a big enough reason for you to get out there and see the world.

We’re about to wrap things up for now so I hope you’ve enjoyed my strange humour and crazy ramblings. You made it this far so I look forward to hearing from you on my blog.

Take care from your friend and travelling companion, Clifton (Travelling Cliff) Johnston.
